Mom Thinks Adopting A Kitten Is The Big Surprise, Is Stunned When She Reads His Name Tag

At the SPCA of Erie County, NY, they're used to seeing a lot of happy moments. Every time someone takes home a rescue pet, it's a glorious, wonderful moment for the pet, the new parents and the workers who get to see the animal go to a good home.

However, some adoptions are even more perfect than others. When Jerad and Katherine (who had been dating for two years) visited this shelter, they knew they wanted to adopt a kitten. What Jerad also knew, though, was that he wanted to make Katherine his wife.

The couple met on a blind date in the fall of 2014, and Jerad realized he had found the one. Two years later, the couple was spending Thanksgiving together when they decided they were ready to add a cat to their household.

At the shelter, they picked out an adorable gray kitten named Gandalf and filled out all the paperwork to take him home. The shelter staff asked if they could film Katherine for an adoption video, and she willingly agreed — what she didn't realize was that they were actually filming a video of her proposal!

While holding Gandalf, a staff member told Katherine to look at his name tag to make sure everything was correct. When she looked at the tag, she realized it said "Will you marry me?" Then, when she turned around, she saw Jerad down on one knee. Luckily, Katherine accepted the proposal and now the couple is happily engaged!
