For your birthday, what do you like to do? Do you celebrate with your friends and family, who all shower you in gifts?
Most of us have some form of birthday celebration that involves getting gifts. Even if it is just one big present, that is what birthdays tend to center around.
Most teenagers have a reputation for thinking about themselves before anyone else. But, not every teenager acts selfishly. One 13-year-old decided to spend her birthday giving back instead of accepting gifts.
Kyra spent her 13th birthday at the hospital. Not because she is sick, but because she didn't want presents for her birthday. The gift of giving feels better than getting one. She wanted to hand out care packages to new mothers undergoing chemotherapy.
Ever since her 9th birthday, Kyra has collected gifts like these for people in need, rather than accepting gifts of her own. She is working to create her own nonprofit organization, My One Birthday. She wants to inspire people to pick one birthday and make it about others.
In her chemo care packages, she wrote a note that put a new mother in tears. You can see Kyra's moving words in the video below. For someone so young, she knows exactly what to do to help others find hope!
You can donate to Kyra's GoFundMe to help her begin her nonprofit My One Birthday, and help her continue inspiring all of the people she can with her inspirational movement!
