New claims of racism are rocking the royal family yet again.
Prince William's godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, just stepped down amid a new investigation into potential racism. The longtime lady-in-waiting to the late Queen Elizabeth II is being accused of making racist comments to an attendee at a palace reception hosted by Camilla, Queen Consort.
The palace has launched an investigation into the claims.
The allegations don't look good for Hussey. According to Ngozi Fulani, the founder of Sistah Space, a nonprofit organization that supports women and families affected by domestic abuse, Hussey repeatedly asked her where she was from. Fulani made the allegations on Twitter.
"What part of Africa are you from?" Fulani alleges Hussey asked her in her tweet. She also shared that she told the lady-in-waiting she was from the UK and was shocked by Hussey's response.
"Oh, I can see I am going to have a challenge getting you to say where you're from," Fulani alleges Hussey said. Hussey followed it up by asking, "When did you first come here?"
Fulani, who was at the palace for a reception on combatting violence against women, detailed the entire exchange on Twitter. She wrote that she had "mixed feelings" about her visit because of the racist comments. After that the rest of the event was "a blur."
The palace released a statement about the allegations, saying that Hussey had stepped down from her role. "We take this incident extremely seriously and have investigated immediately to establish the full details," the statement said. "In this instance, unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments have been made."
They also said that they reached out to Fulani and invited her "to discuss all elements of her experience in person if she wishes."
