Marlon Wayans recently opened up about accepting his trans son and what the journey has been like for them. In an interview on The Breakfast Club on October 10, 2023, the 51-year-old actor revealed that his oldest child, Kai, changed their name and pronouns.
Those changes were initially hard for him to accept as a father. "I talk about the transition," he shared. "Not their transition, but my transition as a parent going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance."
"And I think there's a lot of parents out there that need to have that message, and I know I'm dealing with it," the actor continued. "It was a very painful situation for me."
The comedian, who is on his tour for his Good Grief special, says he's planning another upcoming special that'll focus on Kai. He noted that the tentative titles are Skittles or Rainbow Child.

In accepting his trans son, Marlon hopes he is teaching his kids the gift of freedom. "I gotta respect their wishes, right, and as a parent, I just want my kids to be free," he said. "I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves. The more you know yourself, the more you can govern yourself, the more you live your truth, the happier your existence. So, if they can't get that in a household with their father and their mother, how the [expletive] do I send them out into the world with that kind of confidence?"
