Meghan McCain is a mom! The co-host of The View just welcomed a beautiful baby girl. The announcement came from The View's official Twitter page on Monday. "We are excited to share the happy news that our @MeghanMcCain and her husband Ben Domenech have welcomed their first child, daughter Liberty Sage McCain Domenech!" the tweet read.
Meghan, who has been appearing virtually on the hit daytime TV show since March, announced her pregnancy on March 22 with a lengthy post on Instagram. "My husband Ben and I have been blessed to find out I'm pregnant," she wrote while self-isolating at home. "Although this isn't how I expected to announce my pregnancy, both we and our families are excited to share the news with you all."
It was definitely a bit of a strange time for Meghan, having to stay close to home for safety reasons, but surely it's all been worth it now that her little girl has arrived.
Meghan announced her pregnancy in March via Instagram. A few times, we're heard her talk about her bump on The View. But mostly, Meghan has been quiet about her pregnancy. She's also avoided sharing baby bump photos, which has become a popular trend among expecting celebrities.
Turns out, there's a big reason for that. Meghan had the feeling that her body would be scrutinized. She spoke openly on the show one day about how one of her biggest fears during pregnancy was what she would end up reading about it in the news.
She also spoke up about it on Instagram. "Normally I just let it go because it comes with the territory of being an outspoken conservative woman on TV — but I've felt intensely protective and private over this time in my life and the privacy of my child," she wrote. "I hope all the wonderful people who are so supportive and kind understand!"
Now that Meghan's baby has arrived, it's hard to say when we'll catch a glimpse of the little one. Meghan is probably going to be an extraordinarily protective mother, especially because she's seen the wrath of the internet firsthand. She's likely not going to be ready to share her baby's face with the world just yet.
So far, all we really know about the baby is that she has a beautiful and incredibly patriotic name — Liberty Sage McCain Domenech. It has a gorgeous ring to it, don't you think?
It's also an interesting choice, for a conservative woman to include her own last name in the baby's name, as well! But Meghan often goes against the grain when it comes to her opinions and personal choices, so it's not too much of a surprise.
Chances are, she wanted to include her last name to honor her father, as well. Meghan was incredibly close with her dad, the late Senator John McCain. He died in 2018, but Meghan talks about him often on The View, speaking about his character, as well as their strong bond.
Of course, Meghan has a lot of reasons to be happy right now — becoming a mom is a huge deal. But she's also probably feeling relieved to have a healthy baby. Meghan experienced a miscarriage, a loss she opened up about last summer in a New York Times op-ed.
"I have love for my child,” she wrote in the stunning piece. “I have love for all the women who, like me, were briefly in the sisterhood of motherhood, hoping, praying and nursing joy within us, until the day the joy was over. You are not alone."
Even though Meghan is likely overjoyed, welcoming her baby is probably a bit bittersweet for the star. As close as she was with her father, Meghan would have loved having him around as a grandfather to her new baby. She will still have plenty of people to share her joy with, like the rest of her family, and her supportive co-hosts.
While the ladies of The View squabble from time to time, they maintain that they are all actually great friends in real life. It's honestly pretty refreshing that the women can disagree on so much when it comes to politics, but still figure out how to be friends. In this climate, that's not always easy to do. Right now, as Meghan begins to navigate early motherhood, that support will likely be invaluable.
