Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher were thrilled to announce they reached their $30 million fundraising goal for Ukrainian relief in just 15 days.
The couple and That '70s Show castmates first shared their fundraiser on March 3. The fundraiser was on GoFundMe, and Mila and Ashton started it off with a $3 million personal donation. They encouraged others to give what they could to help with the immense relief efforts that will be needed in Ukraine in the weeks and months to come.
The case is personal for Mila, who was born in Ukraine and moved to the United States as a child. "The events that have unfolded in Ukraine are devastating. There is no place in this world for this kind of unjust attack on humanity," she said when the couple announced their efforts.
The couple were amazed to see that just 48 hours after launching the fundraiser, it was already halfway to its goal. The couple explained that they would be working with Airbnb and Flexport.org.
"Through GoFundMe, this fundraiser will provide an immediate impact on refugee and humanitarian aid efforts. The fund will benefit Flexport.org and Airbnb.org, two organizations who are actively on the ground providing immediate help to those who need it most," Ashton and Mila shared.
Hundreds of civilians have been reported dead or wounded since the war began on February 24. As Mila and Ashton noted, the survivors will need help, as will the many who are currently refugees in other countries trying to stay safe.
On March 17, Mila and Ashton shared a video about hitting their goal. "We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the support," Mila said.
"And while this is far from a solve of the problem, our collective effort will provide a softer landing for so many people as they forge ahead into their future of uncertainty."
"Our work is not done," Ashton continued.
"We're going to do everything we can to ensure the outpouring of love that came from you all as a part of this campaign finds a maximum impact for those in need."
The couple vowed to "treat every dollar as if it's being donated out of our pocket — with respect and honor for the work that went into earning it, with the intent of love through which it was given, and the desire for it to be maximized for a positive outcome for others."
They then encouraged followers to continue with their generosity.
"Please don't stop," Mila urged.
"This is just the beginning to a very, very, very long journey."
