When I was younger, I used to be absolutely terrified of getting in trouble in school and at home. The thought of doing something wrong plagued me every day, and I hoped and prayed that the teacher would never call me out in front of everyone for doing something wrong. In fact, I hoped and prayed that the teacher would never call me up in front of everyone for anything at all.
The worst thing? Being sent to the principal's office, or having the principal take you out of class. I was only sent to the principal's office once, and I've since blacked out the (presumably petty) reason why. It was traumatizing!
When this young girl was pulled from class, she had no idea what or if she had done anything wrong at all. But, she was being pulled from class regardless.
She walked through the halls with her superior with a confused conscience. When she turned one corner, though, everything clicked, and she started running. It was the military homecoming she hoped for!
Then, it was her little brother and sister's turn. During a school-wide assembly, their principal called them up in front of everyone to ask them a few questions. These two aren't sure why they've been singled out, either, but when they're presented with a giant gift to tear open? They certainly don't decline the offer.
What happens in front of the entire school tugs right on your heartstrings… It definitely pulled on their mom's, Staff Sergeant Jennifer White, heart.
