Sharhonda Mahan's 8-year-old son Jalen is clearly the light of her life. But when the little guy revealed a big secret of his, she couldn't help but be more touched.
Jalen confessed that he was going to open his own home bakery so that he could earn enough money to buy his mom a new house. The kitchen that you're seeing them bake in isn't even their real one. Their real home was too small for the news segment.
"I just want one that me and my mom can be happy in," Jalen told ABC.
Jalen is serious about his bakery, too. He makes sweet potato tarts, sprinkle cakes, and his specialty is peanut butter cookies. He even attended a fair for local entrepreneurs. Some were so impressed that they donated an extra oven to his ambitious goal.
The boy says his mom is his biggest inspiration and his best friend in the whole world. But he's not only interested in helping himself, he even started a campaign to raise money for homeless children. Mahan is stunned.
"I guess I would wrap it into feeling overwhelmed with joy," Mahan said. "I've always wanted to raise him to be a selfless individual."
It doesn't cost a dime to dream, but sometimes, children like Jalen, who beat the odds, teach us that our dreams can become a reality.
