Receptionist Offers Private Room To Breastfeeding Mom. 10 Minutes Later, She Demands She Use It

Crystal Martin is one tough mom.

She's not afraid to defend herself and her rights to prove a point: in this case, that mothers nursing their children deserve to be treated with respect.

It was an incident at a doctor's office, of all places, that sparked her outrage. She was waiting for an appointment when her 10-month-old son got hungry. She started breastfeeding in front of the other patients. She did not mind doing so in public.

The office receptionist then came up to her, offering her a room in which she could breastfeed in private. She took this as a friendly offer, as she understands why many mothers would feel uncomfortable in public. She politely declined and resumed minding her own business.

Less than 10 minutes later, the receptionist approached her again, this time with a different tone: she reportedly said, "Well I need you to go in there now because I have work that I need to get back to doing."

The outraged mother says that the receptionist added that nobody in the waiting room wanted to see her doing "that."

Crystal stood her ground and refused, quite upset. But when she got home, she got angry, and filed a complaint.

The hospital at which the incident occurred has since apologized to the mom, claiming that they are working to educate all employees about the rights of breastfeeding mothers.
