Although there are ways to have children without being married, many women still hold on to the traditional family structure, which many think is necessary to raise a child. Or it may even be as simple as wanting to find the right one before having babies. It's a personal choice all women must make in their lifetime.
Claudette Cook wanted children — that was certain. But she didn't meet her husband, Ross, until 10 years ago in church, when she was around 50 years old. They got married, and tried for a baby.
But at her age, the chances of conceiving were already very low. If she did get pregnant, she would put herself at risk, as well as the child. When she saw doctors, they told her that she would never have children because of her age.
Yet, Claudette and Ross never gave up hope, and for 10 years tried everything. They prayed for a miracle.
Then, that miracle came when their IVF doctor gave them the go-ahead. Claudette got pregnant, and with twins no less. The couple hoped for the best.
Ten long years after the mom was told that she would never have children, she gave birth to healthy boys. Although the babies were born one month premature, doctors say they beat all the odds — and Mom, too.
