Any woman who has ever been pregnant knows that expecting moms will do anything to protect their children, and take every precaution necessary. This means not engaging in any risky behavior, but sometimes, accidents happen, as the Tournier family found out.
Kaitlin and her family were in their car on their way to celebrate her daughter's birthday when they got into a terrible car crash. Another car failed to stop at the stop sign and rammed into the family's vehicle.
Kaitlin's husband and daughter emerged unscathed, but it was a different story for the mom, who was 37 weeks pregnant. The impact caused her calf to be severed, and she was losing blood quickly.
Luckily, strangers were there to help contain the blood loss, but by the time she reached the hospital, her unborn child's heart rate was decreasing and she was losing oxygen.
Doctors made the difficult decision to deliver the child via C-section before performing surgery on the mother's leg.
While the crash could have had a very sad outcome, both Mom and baby are doing well! Kaitlin says that little Olivia, who is only a few days old, is eating and smiling like any happy baby. The Tourniers could have easily lost not one, but two members of their family, but as fate would have it, everyone will emerge from the ordeal happier than ever to be alive.
