OH Mom Convinces Daughter She’s Terminally Ill, Crowdfunds For Made-Up Illness

A mom in Ohio is being investigated for lying to her daughter and countless others about a very serious manner.

Lindsey Abbuhl appeared on local news to share the story of her 10-year-old daughter's terminal illness. She received sympathy and gifts from friends, family members, and even local sports teams.

It is a relief that the now 11-year-old isn't terminally ill but devastating to learn that she believed she was. It appears her mother constructed the idea to garner sympathy and get money out of others.

Lindsey Abbuhl is under investigation for allegedly lying to both her daughter and those around her about her daughter's health. The 11-year-old girl has been removed from her mother and placed in temporary custody by the Stark County Department of Job and Family Services after investigators came to believe the mom made up her daughter's terminal illness as a cash grab.

Abbuhl appeared on local news outlets, sharing the story of how her daughter, who dreamed of playing softball in college and professionally, had to walk away from her dreams because of a terminal illness attacking her brain and central nervous system. Authorities later determined the little girl sincerely believed she was going to die.

Through their investigation, the Stark County Department of Job and Family Services determined that there was no medical evidence of terminal illness.

The complaint also shared that the girl has been "engaged in counseling for the past three years to learn how to 'process her own death.'" When a counselor recently left for maternity leave, Abbuhl said her daughter might not be alive by the time she returned. When confronted by police, the mother simply said none of this was her intention. The investigation remains ongoing.
