Shopping for the perfect wedding dress is stressful enough. The last thing a bride-to-be needs is someone there to criticize.
Two best friends named Jo and Alison opened a UK boutique dedicated to helping plus-size brides find the right wedding gown. Their TLC reality show called "Curvy Brides' Boutique" documents their interactions with their customers. Jo and Alison work to provide a safe and comfortable space so their clients never feel judged.
In the clip below, Leah arrives at the boutique hoping to find the dress of her dreams. The hardworking mother of four never has time to primp or pamper herself, and she's accustomed to relying on her sister and/or mom to tell her if she looks good or not. Sometimes, that's not so effective — especially since Leah's mom Belinda can be brutally honest.
Upon entering the store, Belinda mocks Leah's makeup. The saleswomen quickly realize Belinda is going to be a handful.
Leah tells Jo and Alison she wants to feel like a princess on her wedding day, but Belinda seems mostly concerned about her daughter "looking like a hippo."
The opinionated mom continues to knock her daughter's confidence throughout the dress fitting. It gets to the point where Alison especially has had enough.
Alison also had a mother who used to criticize her. Even at the age of 50, she says she still feels the effects of those comments. So, she takes Jo outside and plans to take the control back so Leah can find the wedding dress she deserves.
