Dad Wonders If It’s Normal That Wife Only Lets Kids Open One Christmas Present Every Hour

It's that time of year for wondering if the holiday traditions that feel normal to us are normal for everyone else. One dad just took to Reddit with a seemingly simple question about how his family's Christmas morning present opening goes, and the internet quickly flipped out.

That dad wondered, out loud, if it's normal that his wife likes to really slow down the present opening. That's not that weird, right? It just allows everyone to slow down and enjoy opening their gifts for a bit longer. But he revealed that she doesn't just ask the kids to open their gifts slowly, like long enough to pause and say "thanks!" before moving on to the next. She takes things to the extreme.

In his short and to-the-point post, he begins by writing, "Opening presents is always annoying here." LOL! Well, tell us what you really think.

He continues, "My wife likes to ration presents for the kids and have them open one every hour or two, whereas I prefer to just sit down and take turns opening all of them." Whoa. That's not just like a Christmas morning. That's an entire day of opening gifts … even if there's only a few!

He turned to the internet to ask, "What's your process for gifts?" Of course, people promptly pointed out that the slowed-down approach was pretty out there.

"One per hour? What do you guys do to fill the rest of the hour?" one person curiously asked. "We take turns opening, and if child wants to stop and play with something right now, super. Completely up to him."

Another user pointed out how tough it would be to make kids, anxious to open their gifts, wait that long after each present: "Seriously and I’m trying to imagine enforcing this with kids?! Sounds like a nightmare."

While it does seem like a huge challenge, and even dad felt it was super "annoying," the thread did open up a space for people to talk about how they approach Christmas morning. Some users shared that they open presents on Christmas Eve. Others said they liked the slowed-down approach. And quite a few felt it was ridiculous.

The post was definitely entertaining and engaging, either way, with many users pointing out the humor in the situation. "I'm dying giggling! 'No son, go admire those new boxers a bit longer, 45 minutes to go!'" one user quipped.

So, what do we think? Is making kids wait an hour to open each present a bit extreme, or does it prolong the Christmas joy?
