But one North Carolina mom decided to show a rarely seen side of her pregnancy through a photo.
The 'uncensored' image made a powerful statement about the less glamorous aspects of motherhood.
After their babies are born, many people don't consider the physical and emotional changes that mothers go through — some don't even know that those changes are taking place.
But through her candid image and caption on Facebook, this mom celebrates every aspect of her second child's birth, even if it doesn't make her look all that alluring.

North Carolina mother of two Amanda Bacon gave birth to her second child and shared a decidedly uncensored photo after he was born.
Having already given birth to one baby in the past, Bacon knew what the first few days post-pregnancy would entail.
She is also no stranger to posting humorous, but relevant, photos of motherhood, even if they are not as glamorous as they could be.
So, after the birth of her son Pierce, Bacon posted this photo of her husband, the baby, and her in a 'giant mom diaper' in the hospital.
She begins in her Facebook post:
"Motherhood uncensored. I'm sharing this picture because it's real. This is motherhood; it's raw, stunning, messy, and freaking hilarious all rolled into one."
"Having a baby is a beautiful experience, and the realities of postpartum life aren't spoken enough about. And definitely not photographed enough.
"Some people probably find this uncomfortable, but why? I seriously don't get it! It's probably because this part isn't talked about."
"We all should try and educate, empower and embrace every aspect of childbirth, including moments like this. And do it while having a sense of humor. Nothing says welcome to motherhood like an adorable squishy baby, and a giant mom diaper."
The post quickly went viral with thousands of mothers chiming in to commiserate with Bacon's post-pregnancy necessities.
Her ability to candidly share every side of her pregnancy process was both bold and completely beautiful.
