They Do Mommy-Daughter Makeup Videos, And Fight Back Against People Who Say It’s Child Abuse

Courtney McCutcheon, a 28-year-old mom, has recently come under fire for letting her young daughters create makeup tutorials. Courtney herself is a talented makeup artist who uses social media to share tips and tricks.

Wanting to be like their mom, Molly, 5, and June, 3, asked to create their own videos. They loved watching their mom do her makeup and wanted to give it a try themselves.

In one video, Courtney and Molly do their makeup side by side, employing the contouring method that became popular with celebrities and models this year. Courtney likes letting her daughters play with makeup, but they know it's like playing dress-up. Outside of the house, they are only allowed to wear lip gloss.

The videos, which Courtney saw as cute mother-daughter bonding, sparked controversy when she posted them to her YouTube and Instagram accounts. Some viewers thought the videos were sweet, while others became outraged and compared the footage to "child abuse."

Some of the comments on Instagram got particularly harsh, with viewers writing, "You're just sexualizing a child; that's beyond stupid and ridiculous" and comments like "YOU ARE A PRETTY LITTLE GIRL WITH BEAUTIFUL SKIN AND YOU DON'T NEED MAKEUP, THIS IS FOR ADULTS WITH UGLY AGING SKIN." Another said, "This thing about making a child look exactly as an adult is kind of bad. She has a lifetime to be adult but only a few years to be a kid… is not personal im saying in general."

Other people sided with Courtney, though, writing, "This IS what 'normal' kids do. They play dress up! Did you ever play dress up as a kid or get into your mothers [sic] makeup?"

What do you think? Would you let your daughter try out serious makeup like this? Let us know in the comments and SHARE with your friends!
