An emotional video of young boy crying while gripping tightly on a black goat has gone viral.
According to the video's caption, the Nepalese boy witnessed another goat being slaughtered for sacrifice and begins to cry in hopes of saving his own. While it's heartbreaking to watch the boy beg, it also shows the unconditional love he has for his pet.
Luckily, his plea is successful, as the boy gets to walk away with his beautiful goat.
The video has been viewed more than 8 million times on Facebook and has many heartwarming comments, including one viewer who wrote, "It is so adorable how much he loves his goat and how the parents realized his actions of compassion and love. I love this video."
Animal sacrifice isn't unheard of in Nepal. Tens of thousands were killed every five years during a festival at Gadhimai temple. As of July 2015, however, Humane Society International announced that the animal sacrifice at the festival has been halted.
“This is a tremendous victory for compassion that will save the lives of countless animals. HSI/India was heartbroken to witness the bloodshed at Gadhimai, and we've worked hard to help secure this ban on future sacrifice," said Gauri Maulekhi, HSI/India consultant and Trustee.
