Cameron Diaz Offers Rare Glimpse Into Her New Life As Mom To Daughter Raddix: ‘It’s The Best’

Cameron Diaz and husband Benji Madden welcomed their daughter, Raddix, three months ago. The couple was notoriously private and low-key before Raddix's arrival, so it was a surprise when Cameron chose to open up about her new life as mom to her daughter in an Instagram Live chat with her friend, Katherine Power.

Cameron and Benji announced the birth of Raddix in January of this year, and they haven't really said much else about their baby girl. But it sounds like these two were designed for parenthood.

Cameron praised her husband's parenting skills, saying, "After we’ve done bath time with our baby and we put her down to sleep — Benj puts her to bed. He's so good. He's such an amazing father. I'm so lucky he's my baby's daddy. He's so incredible. He puts her down, and I go into the kitchen and I start dinner and I pour myself a nice glass of red wine, and I start my cooking, I put on my show, whatever it is."

Cameron also gushed about motherhood. "I love being a mother. It’s the best, best, best part of my life. I’m so, so grateful and so happy and it’s the best thing ever, and I’m so lucky to get to do it with Benji, and we’re just having the best time. It’s so great. I’m just thrilled."

She also said that the family is doing OK during this time of social distancing. "I’ve kinda been living [this] life anyhow because I have a 3-month-old, or a 3½-month old. So my life has been completely quiet and still for the last few months. But I was able to have my friends over all the time. And now I just don’t see anybody."

However, she said that being at home safe with her family is pretty much the best thing. "But it’s nice, and I love a bubble, I love being in the womb of my home with my husband and cooking. But at the same time it’s crazy that you can’t go out to the world right now."

She added that just taking it day by day is helping a lot. "The way I’m making it through this time is by staying in the present. I stay in the here and now."

Benji hasn't shared as much about how he feels about parenthood yet, but if you look at his Instagram feed, you definitely see signs of a happy dad. On March 8, he posted a photo of a painting with the caption, "Happy International Women’s Day- Love&Respect. Being a Girl Dad is the best thing ever ❤️❤️❤️."

Cameron and Benji began dating in May 2014 and got married in 2015. They were introduced to one another by Nicole Richie, who is married to Benji's twin brother, Joel. In 2016, Cameron told Harper's Bazaar that getting married in her 40s was amazing. "[Marriage] was the biggest thing I’ve done in my 40s, and it opened me up in different ways. It’s pretty awesome. I didn’t think it was something I’d do, and I don’t know if I’d have done it if I hadn’t met my husband. It was a surprise."

They have been pretty quiet about their relationship in the years since, but every so often one of them surprises Instagram with a sweet post about the other. In August 2018, Benji celebrated Cameron's birthday by noting, "So many things that make me so proud of you and how special you are. Thank you for being the best friend and partner to me and taking this journey of Marriage."

That wasn't all! He kept going, "The way you live your life everyday, and your compassion for the world shines thru in your eyes and you inspire me to want to be the best man I can be in this lifetime. You’re the realest. I’m so grateful to be yours Always&Forever, and to call you my One&Only. True Love."

In July 2014, Nicole Richie joked that she was totally responsible for setting the two up. She told Andy Cohen, "I approve of anything that's going to make Benji happy. I am a devoted sister-in-law. I'm happy for anyone who is happy, and I want everyone to be surrounded with love."

She also added, "I'm going to take responsibility for everything!"

Cameron and Benji surprised several people by getting engaged after seven months of dating, but it just worked for them. A friend told US Weekly, "Everyone thinks it's wild but are so happy for them. Benji always tends to fall in love easily, but this time it's for real and he landed a great girl. They obviously both make each other incredibly happy and there's nothing better than that."

It also sounds like they have experienced their own fair share of ups and downs so far, but that things between them are generally solid. Cameron told Ellen DeGeneres, "I learned all these things about myself that I wish I never learned about myself and I wouldn’t have known them if I didn’t get married. So, it’s like this double-edged sword. But I’m just so grateful for it because I couldn’t do it without my husband and I couldn’t do it with anybody else except for him."

The pair reportedly began trying to have a baby in 2018 and experienced a few roadblocks on the way to their goal. A source shared that they had tried acupuncture and in vitro fertilization, saying, "It’s been a long, hard struggle with many ups and downs. Cameron would love more than anything to be a mom."

Happily, the pair welcomed Raddix this year. They wrote on Instagram: "We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family. She is really really cute!! Some would even say RAD."
