Officer Ortega of the Miami Police Department won a great honor this month: the officer of the month award!
When he was standing there up on the stage, though, he looked a bit nervous, like he was preoccupied by something much bigger.
After he gives a short speech thanking the department for the honor, he looks towards his girlfriend, Rosie, who's been sitting in the audience the whole time.
He then goes on to thank her for being his backbone in everything he does. She's his support, the mother to his two lovely daughters, and the best woman he knows.
In his moment to shine, he calls her up onto the stage and puts all of the attention on her instead. You can see that Rosie knows in the back of her head what's going on, but the surprise is still enough to leave her silence.
When Officer Ortega gets down on one knee and asks the mother of his children and the love of his life to be his wife, she doesn't take the time to to say "yes," right away. She immediately bends down to give him a loving kiss.
What an amazing moment for these two, as well as for the department. Being part of a police department is like being in a family, and this family just got a bit bigger with this proposal. This is a day that everyone in the room will remember for quite a long while.
