Boy With Diabetes Saves Pennies For 4 Years To Afford A Service Dog

When Aiden Heath was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 4 years old, his mom told him to start saving if he wanted to afford a service dog. These dogs are potential life-savers, and can sniff out dangerously low glucose levels 20 minutes before a monitor can. Jedi the service pup was able to save a little boy by waking his mom up in the middle of the night.

These dogs also cost about a whopping $15,000 — a sum that would be a burden for almost any family.

Aiden is now 8 years old, and for the past four years, his mother, Jenni, has been checking on him and his blood sugar levels throughout the day and night. This has undoubtedly been exhausting for her. But Aiden also took his mother's advice to heart, and has been collecting jars of pennies since his diagnosis. Though the coins may not amount to much, Aiden is doing his best to get just a couple of steps closer to being able to afford that furry companion. Just one month ago, he was $9,000 away from achieving his goal!

His efforts paid off. He wasn't just able to save money, but inspire others to donate to his cause via a GoFundMe page. Enough money has been raised so that his new service pup, Angel, can undergo the extensive training that may one day save his life.
