10-Year-Old Shatters Stereotypes By Becoming First Female Player In Football League’s History

If there's one thing for certain about Peyton Watson, it's that she's inarguably proving that there's no such thing as "playing like a girl." The 10-year-old athlete plays wide receiver, cornerback, and safety on her football league.

Her ultimate goal? She's hoping to make a tackle football team.

Peyton is the only girl on her Katy, TX youth league team — the first girl ever in the league's history, in fact. And lest you think that her parents may not be playing close enough attention at practice, her dad says that they spent years deflecting her requests to play a traditionally male-dominated sport, probably not unlike this incredible weightlifter. In the end, however, they realized that it was Peyton's dream to play.

When asked why it isn't odd that she's playing on an all boys team, Peyton has the perfect response.

"I play just like them," she tells KHOU News. "I just go like them."

Her coach Joe Goudeau says he refrains from calling her a "young lady," adding that she plays just the same as any of his other players. She hopes to continue playing football when she enters into junior high — and if any player were cut out for the team? It's probably this tough cookie.
