A South Carolina school district recently established a program that integrates police officers and students. By inviting officers into the classroom on a regular basis, students learn from an early age that police men and women are their friends. Master Deputy Mike Gibson was just one of the officers who participated in this program during his off-duty hours. But what began as a moonlighting job of sorts turned into something much, much greater.
Deputy Gibson went from working in the child development center to becoming the school's full-time resource officer. As he spent more time with the students, he developed a special kinship with one little boy who began calling him Officer Dad. As it turned out, the little boy had no parents of his own. The six-year-old had already shuffled in and out of at least eight different foster homes, and was the victim of child abuse. "He was searching. He was definitely a child in need," Gibson told WYFF. "He was in need of parents, that’s what he wanted."
Something about the boy kept pulling at Debuty Gibson's heart, and he couldn't ignore the calling to adopt the boy himself.
And so, the hero officer and his wonderful wife began the exhausting process of filing for adoption and obtaining certifications — all . Finally, the little boy who only wanted a home will have his Officer Dad for good. Please SHARE this incredible story with your friends on Facebook.
