Kate Middleton And Prince William Are Defying Gender Stereotypes With Prince George’s New Hobby

It's back-to-school season everywhere, and Kensington Palace is no exception. Last year, Kate Middleton and Prince William sent their eldest son, Prince George, off to primary school for the first time. This year, he's off to what's called "year one" in England. They grow up so fast!

While George's first year at Thomas's Battersea was focused on settling the children into routine, this year he'll try his hand at all sorts of activities — including one in particular that challenges gender stereotypes.

This school year, the 5-year-old royal will begin ballet lessons, Elle reports. He'll learn ballet as well as other dance styles, accompanied by a live pianist.

Ballet students "follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus and undertake annual examinations," the school's website says. "All Extra Ballet pupils dance in our biannual performances."

Meanwhile, Prince Charlotte will continue on with a favorite hobby of her own.

It seems like just yesterday Prince George was shyly starting kindergarten at Thomas's Battersea.

But a whole year has passed since then. Prince George turned 5!

And now he's ready to take on the world.

Or just year one.

According to Elle, year one will involve all sorts of new classes, including history, science, and geography.

But the new class that really has people talking is ballet.

People are impressed that Kate and William are having their son take ballet classes.

For members of a royal family with lots of rules, shattering gender stereotypes in this way is pretty meaningful.

Not to mention the adorableness that is certainly going to ensue!

Meanwhile, 3-year-old Princess Charlotte has a special hobby of her own.

She took up horseback riding when she was just 18 months old.

The little girl is following in her great-grandma Queen Elizabeth II's footsteps with her favorite hobby.

Charlotte started nursery school in January.

All in all, it's been a pretty big year for the royal family.

On top of Charlotte's and George's school developments, Kate and William also welcomed their third child, Prince Louis, in April 2018.

At this rate, baby Louis will have a cool new hobby of his own by this time next year!
