In a major last-minute change, Prince Harry will now be allowed to wear his military uniform to the late queen's final vigil in Westminster Hall.
The ceremony takes place on September 16, before Queen Elizabeth II is laid to rest. Harry, along with the queen's other grandchildren, will stand by her coffin in total silence for 15 minutes at the vigil.
While earlier this week, the palace announced that while Prince Andrew would be allowed to wear his military uniform, the same exception was not made for Harry. However, it seems that has now been reconsidered.
A spokesperson for Harry addressed the situation in a statement on Tuesday. "[Prince Harry] will wear a morning suit throughout events honoring his grandmother," it read. "His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."
According to what an insider told Us Weekly, while Harry was certainly disappointed to not be able to wear his military uniform, he had "come to terms" with it. "Whilst that’s disappointing in some senses, he’s just grateful to be present and honoring the queen. At the end of the day, it’s only a uniform," they said.
Either way, Prince Harry is likely happy and relieved there has been a change of heart.
