Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their daughter, Lilibet Diana, on June 4, 2021. The pair kept many of the details of Lilibet's birth a secret from the public, but new reports imply that it's possible they kept her birth a secret from Prince Harry's family.
Much has been made of the fact that the pair chose to name their daughter after the Queen. Lilibet is a nickname for the Queen used by close family members, and the tribute is a moving, sweet one. While some sources have claimed that using the nickname is a slam against the Queen, it seems that Harry and Meghan gained her approval before deciding on the name for good.
The Daily Mail has reported that it's believed Harry and Meghan told the Queen that they wanted to name their daughter Lilibet ahead of her arrival. Unfortunately, it seems that they might not have told anyone in Harry's family when their baby was actually born.
Harry and Meghan released the news on their Archewell website on June 6 that Lilibet had arrived. Curiously, it took a full hour and a half for any member of the royal family to celebrate Lilibet's birth on social media. In years past, mentions of new royal babies have all been coordinated across various social media channels.
The royals aren't the only family members that Harry and Meghan remain estranged from. Meghan's father, Thomas Markle, also found out about Lilibet's birth via social media. He shared a statement, "I am very pleased with the announcement of the safe and healthy delivery of my new granddaughter, and I wish her and her mother all my love and best wishes!"
Many believe that the chasm between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the family has only deepened in recent weeks, especially after the release of Harry's mental health series. Harry goes into many details of his upbringing in the feature, and both his grandmother and his father are said to be upset about what he disclosed.
It's also unclear when the royals will meet Lilibet in person. It's believed that they have not been physically with Archie since Harry and Meghan moved to Canada in late 2019.
