Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Welcome New, Furry Friend Into Royal Family

It's hard to believe that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been married for only three months! The newlyweds have had an incredibly busy summer. June and July saw the couple engaging in their new duties as Duke and Duchess of Sussex, from visiting Ireland to attending the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup.

August is typically when the royal family takes a break from the public eye for their summer holidays. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are enjoying Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, are lounging on the beach in Mustique with their three children.

Harry and Meghan have done some traveling, including paying a visit to George and Amal Clooney. When they aren't traveling, they are enjoying their country home in the Cotswolds. It's there that news of a new addition to the royal family has emerged. Harry and Meghan have adopted a Labrador retriever!

Harry and Meghan are no strangers to dogs. Both have a well-documented history as animal lovers.

Meghan had two dogs prior to linking up with Harry, both rescues. Her Labrador-shepherd mix, Bogart, lives in the United States with close friends of Meghan's.

Meghan's other dog, a beagle named Guy, lives with her and Harry. Meghan's makeup artist shared that Guy was by her side as she got ready on her wedding day: "We had breakfast. Guy, her dog was with us. We were playing around with him."

Rumors circulated that Guy was even seen taking a ride with Queen Elizabeth to the royal wedding reception, although those did not turn out to be true.

Queen Elizabeth, of course, is a fan of corgis and dorgis (dachshund-corgi mixes). The last of her corgis, Willow, passed away in April. She still has two dorgis, Vulcan and Candy.

Harry joked about how quickly the Queen's dogs warmed up to Meghan during their engagement interview: "I've spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing."

As children, Harry and William had a black Labrador retriever name Widgeon.

William and Kate also got a new pup a few months after tying the knot. Their cocker spaniel, Lupo, was born of Kate's parents' dog.

Then, of course, Prince Charles and Camilla have two dogs. The Jack Russell terriers are named Beth and Bluebell.

Camilla was even named royal patron to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, succeeding Queen Elizabeth. We're sure Meghan will be interested in the work her new stepmother-in-law does with the organization.

As for Meghan and Harry's new pooch, there's no word on a name quite yet. A spokesperson for Kensington Palace declined to comment on the latest royal pup.

We do know that the dog is another Labrador retriever, a breed that obviously is close to both their hearts.

Labrador retrievers are also the most popular breed of dog throughout the United Kingdom.

People have noticed that this move follows very similarly in big brother William's post-wedding footsteps. Does that mean we'll have to wait another year and a half for a royal baby?

Congrats to Meghan and Harry on the newest addition to their family. We can't wait to meet their new four-legged friend!
