Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be one of the most watched couples in the world. The two are expecting their first child any day now.

It's been a wild ride for the couple, who only went public with their relationship less than three years ago. At the time, Harry was speaking out against the hate and discriminatory comments aimed at Meghan as rumors of their romance spread.

We learned more about the early days of their relationship when the two sat down with BBC for their engagement interview.

Harry and Meghan met in London in the summer of 2016. The two were set up on a date by a mutual unidentified friend.

After two consecutive days of dates, the pair put their budding relationship to the test. That August, they spent five days together in Botswana.

Harry was in Botswana for three weeks that summer doing conservation work with the elephants. The goal was to fit the elephants with translocators.

During his time there, he sat down for an interview with Town & Country. In the interview, Harry explained that he fell in love with Africa after visiting with his father and brother.

Prince Charles took the boys for some time there shortly after their mother, Princess Diana, died. The beautiful setting and what Harry described as "the most down-to-earth people I know on the planet" led to Harry visiting Africa just about every summer he got the chance.

During the interview, Harry also touched on the significance of Botswana to him.

"I’ve been incredibly lucky to have been able to visit Botswana as many times as I have," he said.

A photo from when he and Meghan returned there in 2017 was shared on their Instagram page in relation to Harry attending the premiere of Our Planet recently.

According to what the prince has said, Africa provides Harry with a way to feel himself, without all the pomp and circumstance and attention he's grown up around.

"I get more excited about seeing two birds fighting than the Big Five… I feel rooted in Africa and everything about it," he said fondly.

Considering how much Botswana meant to him before he took Meghan there, you can tell that their trip was a pretty big deal. To connect with someone so much in two days that you want to whisk them away to the most special place on earth to you certainly says something for their quick early connection!

Botswana became an important part of their relationship.  The center diamond in Meghan's engagement ring is sourced from the country.

The two even traveled to Africa for their final official trip before welcoming Baby Sussex. The couple visited Morocco for some royal business mixed with a bit of a babymoon.

It's truly special to see these insights into Harry and Meghan's relationship. It goes to show the kind of direction they're taking their household in.
