Prince William skipped the BAFTA ceremony, of which he is president. Instead of joining the world of entertainment at the academy’s annual film awards in London, which saw Conclave and The Brutalist win a slew of awards, the future British king decided to treat himself to a Caribbean vacation with his family. The Mail on Sunday revealed that the Prince of Wales is more than 4,000 miles from Britain, in the exclusive Caribbean paradise of the island of Mustique.

Prince William, Kate, and their children flew to the private island on February 13, just days after Kensington Palace announced the couple would not be attending the star-studded ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall. The family are enjoying their second vacation in a matter of months, following their New Year’s ski break. It is believed they all traveled together in business class on a British Airways flight. In recent years, the protocol that states that heirs to the throne fly separately has been relaxed.
One source says they took a flight to Saint Lucia before catching a private one to Mustique, famously the favorite haunt of the late Princess Margaret, and also a much-loved celebrity getaway. The late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip also visited in 1966, 1977, and 1985. It is thought that Kate’s mother Carole Middleton, who appreciates the privacy the location affords, is also on the island.
Mustique is owned by a private company and does not allow journalists or photographers to stay there. There is just one small hotel on the island and visitors must either own a home or have an invitation to stay there. There is just one bar, Basil’s, whose clientele include Mick Jagger, Daniel Craig, Noel Gallagher and Kate Moss.
BAFTA insiders were initially hopeful that William and Kate would attend the ceremony together, marking a return to the red carpet for Kate following her illness. William attended the ceremony in 2024 without his wife, but has not missed two years running since becoming president in 2010.
