Princess Charlene is finally back in Monaco with her family after a prolonged absence that was exacerbated by a multitude of health issues and a stay in a treatment facility.
Princess Charlene reportedly checked into a clinic in Switzerland in November 2021 following the months she spent in South Africa battling an undisclosed health condition.
Prince Albert had previously issued an explanation about his wife's absence, offering up that she endured "exhaustion, both emotional and physical." He also noted that seeking treatment in Switzerland was his wife's choice.
Prince Albert explained to People, "She had already made her decision, and we only wanted her to confirm it in front of us. She wanted this. She already knew the best thing to do was to go and have a rest and have a real medically framed treatment."
The palace has continued to ask for privacy at this time, noting that despite the fact that she has returned home, Princess Charlene "still needs peace and calm, The Princely Couple therefore asks that their private life and family environment continue to be respected."
Princess Charlene originally fell ill while on a planned 10-day trip to her home country of South Africa. She subsequently spent six months undergoing various surgeries and treatments in the country.
After briefly returning to Monaco, Princess Charlene reportedly "was unwell and felt uncomfortable" and elected to seek more treatment elsewhere. She missed several notable events and anniversaries, including the birthday of her children and her 10th wedding anniversary with Prince Albert.
