The marriage between Princess Diana and Prince Charles officially ended on July 15, 1996, but the emotional separation between the two had been in the works for years.

While Princess Diana received an impressive payment of $26 million and an annual stipend of $625,000 in the settlement, she also lost quite a lot.
As many people know, Princess Diana was no longer able to use the title Her Royal Highness following her divorce from Prince Charles. Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth was comfortable with Princess Diana keeping the title — Prince Charles was the one who said she had to stop using it.
Princess Diana was also forced to have any trips she wanted to take (outside of private vacations) approved by the royal family. While this isn't a loss exactly, it had to be a taxing thing to know that she was still required to get the approval of a family she had left. On top of that, Princess Diana did lose the massive royal budget that comes with planning official trips.
Princess Diana also lost access to her enormous staff following the split and was left with only three people: a housecleaner, a cook, and someone who dressed her. These three reportedly became very important to her.
As a working royal, Princess Diana proudly supported nearly 100 charities in the UK. After her divorce, that number dropped to only six. However, numerous sources support the fact that Princess Diana supported those six extremely seriously for the rest of her life.
The divorce also took quite a hit on Princess Diana's emotional and mental health. In the last year of her life, Princess Diana grew concerned that something, or someone, was tracking her movements and/or monitoring her.
