Richard Gere, 70, Celebrates The Birth Of His Second Child With Wife Alejandra Silva, 37

Richard Gere is a father again! The 70-year-old actor has welcomed his second child with wife Alejandra Silva. The birth of their second baby comes only 14 months after their son, Alexander, was born.

Alejandra gave birth at the couple's home in Pound Ridge, New York. Both Richard and Alejandra have children from previous relationships: Richard is dad to 20-year-old Homer, whose mom is his ex-wife Carey Lowell, and Alejandra is mom to 7-year-old Albert, whose dad is her ex-husband Govind Friedland.

Richard and Alejandra have known one another for years, but they only began dating in 2014 when they happened to run into one another at a hotel in Italy that Alejandra was managing. They got married in April 2018 and celebrated Alexander's birth in February of the following year. They then confirmed that Alejandra was pregnant again in November of 2019.

Alejandra confirmed the news on Instagram, where she wrote, "A very special moment just a few minutes ago … Getting blessings for our precious to come."

Fans and followers of the couple have also been interested in one really obvious thing about them: They have a 33-year age difference. Alejandra has previously shared that it doesn't bother her at all.

"It had to be that way in this lifetime. He has promised me at least 20 good years! But I have to confess that he has much more energy than me, is much more active. It’s hard to keep up with him. … He’s not human!"

Alejandra and Richard had a Buddhist ceremony and, as a nod to Alejandra's native Spain, included a lot of Spanish influence at their reception. In an interview with Hola!, Alejandra spoke about how she feels about Richard.

"He knows I love him madly. I think it gave him stability. Above all, it helped that I wasn’t an actress or a model. I never had an interest in it. What has united us the most is our desire to help other people who need it, our commitment to Buddhism and the Tibetan people … I can see my unconditional commitment as a humanitarian, as a person, as a woman."

In the same interview, Richard also shared, "I am the happiest man in the universe, how could I not be? I am married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, a great cook who makes the best salads in the world. Alejandra meditates, is a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel… and is also Spanish! The land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Buñuel … Insuperable!"

Alejandra also shared that meeting Richard was all about having the right timing. "I was a little lost, without light, and knowing him gave meaning to my life. It was feeling that someone was reaching out and showing me my true path."

Richard and Alejandra definitely have a lot in common. They are both are powerful activists for causes that they believe in. Alejandra has previously promoted the work of Beautiful Life Fund, an organization that helps refugee children, victims of war, and homeless children get access to education and resources. She also still runs the RAIS Foundation, an organization that serves the homeless.

Richard has been a longtime activist on behalf of the Tibetan people. He is cofounder of Tibet House US, created the Gere Foundation, and is chairman of the board of directors for the International Campaign for Tibet. His pro-Tibet activism has caused him to be banned from entering China and also from presenting at the Academy Awards.

While very few details are available at the present, it's likely that the pair are enjoying their newest arrival tremendously. After their wedding, Alejandra commented, "I feel like I'm in a true fairytale. Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world," and it's a sure bet that the new baby has only doubled that feeling.
