Sean Penn, 59, Reportedly Marries Girlfriend Of Four Years, Actress Leila George, 28

Sean Penn has married again! The actor, 59, has reportedly married his girlfriend of four years, 28-year-old Leila George.

Irena Medavoy, a friend of the couple, shared the news on Instagram in a post that has since been deleted.

Irena wrote, "We are so happy for @leilageorge #seanpenn getting married. We love you. We are over the moon to find your soul mate true partner. You are meant to be together God Bless you both."

Sean and Leila were first linked back in 2016, when they were photographed kissing in Hawaii.

The pair have a pretty wide age difference, and Sean is a year younger than Leila's father, actor Vincent D'Onofrio.

Not much is known about Sean and Leila's relationship, as the two are quite camera-shy. While they have been seen together at restaurants and out on dates, they don't give interviews about their relationship and have generally kept to themselves. They did both recently help administer coronavirus tests at a drive-thru clinic.

Prior to his relationship with Leila, Sean was linked to actress Charlize Theron. Charlize and Sean dated for about a year and a half before calling it quits in 2015. Their split surprised many, as the pair had been dodging engagement rumors and appeared to more in love than ever at the premiere of Charlize's film Mad Max: Fury Road.

In December 2014, several sources even reported that while Sean and Charlize were not getting married, they were committed. One source told E! News, "They have made a commitment to be together for the rest of their lives. They are discussing when and where they will have a wedding."

Charlize had also told previously told E! News that the couple had a "sacred" relationship: "It's great when you find something that's real and it's hard to keep that sacred, to keep that private in this work, but I go home at night and I close my front door and I'm a really, really happy girl."

Charlize and Sean had a long friendship prior to dating: "We've been friends for 20 years. He was married, I was in a long-term relationship, our spouses — not regularly, but we were in each other's lives. I think our friendship stemmed from mutual respect — more on my end, because I really didn't have a body of work 20 years ago, but my love and passion for making films — that was our common ground."

Charlize also shared that she wasn't so sure about marriage: "The marriage thing is always so strange to me. I love the possibility of anything, but I'm really enjoying myself and the everyday moment and how that coincides with my son and my life and my friends. I'm a very, very, very lucky girl. Very lucky. He's hot. He is hot."

Sean also shared that his relationship with Charlize took him by surprise: "I'm surprised to be in love. Lot of reasons. Fifty-three years old [at the time] plus finally beginning to figure out why you haven't been happy in a single relationship? It could seem too late." He even said that he'd be open to marriage again: "Yes, I'd get married again. I'm in love with a woman and home is where the heart is, right?"

Sean has two adult children with his ex-wife Robin Wright. Sean and Robin divorced in 2010, and both have spoken about how they don't always see eye to eye, even when it comes to raising their kids. Sean told Marc Maron, "We don't not get along. We have very separate relationships with our kids at this point and it seems to work better that way because they are making their own decisions. As it turned out she and I did not share the same ethical views on parenting, including the continuing parenting of adult children."

Sean also shared that he has a great relationship with his kids: "They're amazing people. They're both acting and modeling, an industry that I'm not very interested in but they seem to have fun with it. I'm supportive of whatever my kids do that keeps them happy and healthy, period."

Sean also had a notoriously tumultuous relationship with Madonna. The two were married for a little over two years and racked up headlines the entire time. Madonna even predicted that their marriage would end in divorce, telling People, "We have so much in common that he's almost like my brother. His temperament is also similar to mine. That doesn't always make for ideal relationships, but I don't know what will happen."

Sean was notorious for having unexpected angry outbursts, and he racked up a string of arrests for assault (1985), attempted murder (1986), assault (1986), assault (1987), and felony assault (1987). The 1987 arrest happened after he reportedly assaulted Madonna for nine hours, with allegations that he "tied Madonna to a chair, hit her across the head with a baseball bat and threatened to shave her head."
