Shawn Johnson East and husband Andrew's family is growing!
On Friday, Shawn announced on Instagram that she's pregnant with her second child. She shared a bump shot with the caption, "Here we go again."
The soon-to-be 29-year-old former Olympic gymnast has recently opened up to fans about trying for a second child. They were cleared after their daughter, Drew Hazel East, celebrated her first birthday on October 29. That means that in a matter of months, the couple will have two under the age of 2.
Drew was a rainbow baby for the couple. Shawn miscarried about a year prior, an emotional experience that she opened up about on YouTube, leading the family to create more content on the platform. Aside from YouTube, they also run a number of businesses, including Teddy & Bear, a sock line that offers cute socks that double as adorable sock puppets.
In addition to their Instagram announcement, Shawn and Andrew shared a video detailing how she found out she was pregnant, how she told him, and the chaos that ensued just a few hours later.
Shawn Johnson East has announced that she's pregnant with baby No. 2! The former Olympian, who turns 29 on January 19, shared a bump shot where she's kissing husband Andrew East on Instagram to share the news with fans.
"Here we go again," she captioned the shot.
Shawn and Andrew also shared a video to their YouTube Channel revealing everything about the pregnancy. The two had teased a possible announcement at the end of their New Year's video recapping 2020.
The beginning of the video features a vlog from Andrew, explaining that he thinks Shawn's pregnant. "I feel like she's been emotionally variable this past week in a way I can't remember her being since the last time she was pregnant," he said.
It wasn't the case that time, but the two decided to make a more concerted effort to get pregnant at that point. Five days later, Shawn took a test, even though she knew it'd be too soon. She was shocked when it was actually positive.
When she told Andrew, he was thrilled, but admitted he had a feeling. Shawn also shared that she had been nervous realizing how long she'd already been pregnant.
"I think every time I get a pregnancy test positive after the miscarriage, I try to like numb myself. I'm like, 'Okay, here's the situation. You're pregnant. We don't know how it's going to end.'"
"It's kind of like, let's prepare for it. I don't celebrate it, which is kind of sad. Like I get excited, but I also get very daunted by the situation."
Just a few hours later, their celebrations screeched to a halt when Andrew found out a COVID test he'd taken in anticipation of business travel came back positive. The two had to scramble to figure out what to do next.
"It's so confusing what to do as a family," Shawn said.
"We were in this time of celebration and we wanted to tell her parents and my parents and our friends, but I ended up having to self-isolate for 10 days," Andrew said.
"We were scared to begin with that you had COVID," Shawn noted.
"We weren't sure if Drew had it. We weren't sure if I had it. And so I was calling her pediatrician, I was calling my OB. We were like 'Well we've been living together, sleeping together, everything, what do we do?'
"Do I need to worry about being pregnant, especially early on pregnancy? I got so scared of potentially increasing my risks of miscarriage."
For Andrew, it was tough being away from Drew and Shawn. He self-isolated in a bedroom on a different floor of their home so Drew wouldn't see him and try to get to him.
"I will say, having a wife you just found out was pregnant that you want to support and celebrate with and hug and cuddle … it was not the ideal situation," he said.
Thankfully, everyone's all good now and excited to meet the new baby East in summer 2021.
