Shonda Rhimes Gives A Powerful Message To Her Daughters About Working Moms

Every working mother has been asked, "But how do you balance work and the kids?"

Each mother has a different response to this age-old question. How do you balance your own work life, while maintaining your family?

No two mothers will have the same exact response because every mother is different and has unique circumstances at work and in their general lives.

Even famous mothers get asked this question and struggle to answer it! When writer and producer Shonda Rhimes stopped by Oprah Winfrey's Super Soul Sunday, the TV host asked her this very question.

For Shonda, this balance comes with a lot of guilt. She is there to support her daughters, but she will have to leave certain events early for work. She says this creates guilt, but her ability to balance them both is allowing herself to not feel guilty.

She argues that if she gave up her work life for her children, it wouldn't be fair to them. If she did that, she would be a miserable mother, and she doesn't believe that is the right lesson to teach them.

Shonda goes a step further to say that current cards for mothers set a bad example for children, suggesting mothers need to only sacrifice for their children. She wonders where the cards are that say a mother taught her daughter how to be a powerful woman? Do you think cards like this need to be sold in stores as well?

If you enjoyed this, you will absolutely love this working mother who stuck up for herself against bullies who told her to quit her job!
