When Madeline was 3 years old, her parents were devastated when they found out she was battling a rare form of cancer.
The Minnesota family was charged with the almost impossible feat of making sure that the little girl could be cured of her disease, while giving her everything she needed to be comfortable.
The couple appeared on Oprah's television show in 2008, where they met Simon Cowell, perhaps one of the most famous personas on television. He is mostly recognized for his hard demeanor and unforgiving comments to performers on shows like American Idol, and currently America's Got Talent.
But when he met Madeline's parents, he showed a much softer side: He kindly wrote a substantial personal check to pay off their mortgage.
Without the financial load, the couple would be free to dedicate their time and money to helping Madeline get better. How incredible is that?!
Just a few years later, 10-year-old Madeline and her family reunited with Oprah to update everyone on her condition. Not only is she doing well, but she's even a big sister now, too.
Her mom says that there is not a day that goes by when she doesn't thank Mr. Cowell for his generosity. His actions have truly made a world of difference for this family!
