Singer Carrie Underwood's been attached to Mike Fisher for well over a decade, and the two have a lot to celebrate. Carrie's a mom of boys. Big brother Isaiah was born in 2015, and Carrie welcomed baby Jacob Bryan Fisher in January of 2019. While Carrie had some years in between her kids, her second pregnancy wasn't the easiest thing in the world.
The singer has been open about having miscarriages in between the two births, which is emotionally tough to handle. But she also had a bad case of pregnancy insomnia while pregnant with Jacob. Pregnancy can make it impossible to sleep. Aside from the bump, you might also have a ton of racing thoughts. According to Healthline, women often sleep slightly better at the start of pregnancy, but the quality of sleep will eventually decline. And then there's the fourth trimester — your newborn has arrived, but nobody's sleeping because of it.
But Carrie chose to use that time wisely. She actually wrote a book called Find Your Path: Honor Your Body, Fuel Your Soul, and Get Strong With the Fit52 Life, using the early morning hours when her family members were all at rest.
Carrie Underwood shot to fame by winning the fourth season of American Idol back in 2005. She's one of the most popular and successful winners of the franchise. After winning, she released her first CD — Some Hearts. The album was an immediate hit and went multiplatinum. From there, she proved she had what it took to be successful in the industry.
Carrie admits that she had a great and supportive upbringing. According to Biography, she once stated, "I had a very happy childhood full of the wonderful simple things that children love to do. Growing up in the country, I enjoyed things like playing on dirt roads, climbing trees, catching little woodland creatures and, of course, singing."
In 2008, she became the youngest member ever to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. A year after that, she picked up her fourth Grammy. While she dated a few other notable people — like Tony Romo and Chace Crawford — it would be Mike Fisher who stole her heart. The year 2008 was also when the couple started dating, and they got married two years afterward.
While Carrie Underwood's life story is mostly positive, she's still had some tough times. Fans will never forget when they heard that she'd had an accident that required 40 stitches on her face. On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Carrie addressed the accident and the comments she got afterward, some of which were negative. "My biggest worry at the time was that if I said nothing, later on people would pick apart … and wonder, 'What has she done to herself electively?' It definitely was not a choice," she stated.
Some fans felt as if there was more to the story she wasn't sharing — but perhaps, if she's like Jessica Simpson, she'll acknowledge it more in her book. Only time will tell. It's hard to imagine what sort of thoughts and creative spells were occurring during the early morning hours that she dedicated toward writing it.
As far as children are concerned, Carrie has admitted that she doesn't know yet if her family is complete. "It's such a difficult road to get where we are now," she said to Today. "But I’ve been a lot of kind of ‘live in the moment’ lately. And I think that’s good. I am kind of a planner and I really do like knowing what’s around every corner."
In 2018, she talked more about her multiple miscarriages, admitting that getting pregnant wasn't easy. "I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby," she said. "We got pregnant early 2017, and [it] didn’t work out." Miscarriages are fairly common when it comes to pregnancy, but since women are often told not to discuss them publicly, it's even more important for celebrities like Carrie to speak up for the women who are hurting.
Carrie also recently opened up about how it's been difficult trying to parent baby Jake while on tour. Back in the day, she had no issues with bringing Isaiah on the road with her. But this time, even with additional help, she has faced more of a struggle. "I definitely banked on Jake being an easy baby," she said, per People. "This kid better sleep at night!"
When she didn't know whether or not a second baby would be a reality, Carrie started making peace with what she had. "My son, Isaiah, is the sweetest thing. And he’s the best thing in the world," she said, per People. "And I’m like, ‘If we can never have any other kids, that’s okay, because he’s amazing.’ And I have this amazing life."
When she brings her kids on tour, she makes sure they're as comfortable as possible. "It’s definitely a balancing act," she told People in 2016. "I have help, because someone has to watch Isaiah when I’m on stage, but we live a lot more on the bus now instead of going in and out of hotels."
"My bus is outfitted for him," she added. "He has a crib in the back, and everything is safe there." While he likely won't remember the tour, hopefully Carrie has plenty of stories and photos to share with her firstborn someday. Isaiah might also need to be retold the story of how he apparently wanted to give his little brother his name since he knew it was special.
"He’ll be really sweet and talk to my belly and kiss my belly," Carrie told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. "He’s the sweetest little boy. But no kid can really know that their life is going to change. … He’ll have to share Mommy." Hopefully, the transition has been easy for him. Being a sibling is a tough yet rewarding job.
All in all, Carrie Underwood keeps proving that she's always staying positive. While most pregnant women would lament their lack of sleep, Carrie has found a way to stay productive. Even if she wasn't planning on selling her book, the act of writing was likely therapeutic. And since Carrie actually has a background in journalism, it was probably a lot of fun for her.
She's also proof that as women, we can bounce back from anything. Sometimes, life throws some tough obstacles our way. Other times, things happen out of our control that can really throw us for a loop. But Carrie continues to show her fans that life can go on. Pregnancy may still be possible after three losses, and even lack of sleep may end up making your writing even better than before.
