Even in this day and age, many women still find that their bodies are policed through various means. Institutions, just as much as people, try to conceal the perceived sexual nature of female bodies by setting rules: in older days, women were not allowed to wear revealing garments, for example. Still today, many are aware of the restrictions placed their clothing choices.
Schools, for example, may have a policy on skirt length. While this is very common, reasons for this policy appear to be misguided, to many.
Kambrya College in Australia held an assembly for the young women attending the institution. During this meeting, the vice principal advised the young ladies to not wear skirts of shorter lengths because they would be compromising their integrity and self-respect.
Many of the students were appalled by the claim – including Faith Sobotker, a 15-year-old student. She had a few choice words about the assembly, which were recorded on camera. Her friends and onlookers fully support her message, and even encourage her. Her thoughts appeared the be exactly what was on all the students' minds.
In the clip, the teen says that the vice principal's claims are false: the length of her skirt is not a reflection of how much self-respect she has. She is 15-years-old, her body should not be sexualized in any way, regardless of what she wears.
Now watch the entire clip to hear Faith's epic and powerful tirade.
