Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were a kid? In a diary, my 5-year-old self wrote that I wanted to be a “pet shop” when I grew up, a.k.a. a veterinarian.
That's one of the best feelings you get to experience during your adolescent years — the sense that you can do absolutely anything with your life if you put your mind to it. That's surely how this little boy felt after he got to live out his dream of being a garbage man, even for a little while!
And on January 6, 2017, 4-year-old Marshall Scott's birthday wish came true when he became a guardsman for the day — and got acknowledged by one too.
Decked out in a bright red uniform so he can't be missed, Marshall went with his mom, Imogen Scott, to Windsor Castle in England to see the guards in person. Once they arrived, Marshall noticed the guardsmen approaching the castle, so he positioned himself right next to the door — hoping to catch their attention.
Marshall stood to the side, right hand up in salute, as the group of men in uniform marched by him.
Just when the boy figured that was it, one guardsman came out from the doorway and walked right up to Marshall. He motioned the little guy to come closer, then got into his guardsman stance — and Marshall did the same (with his salute as well, of course).
After a few moments of posing together, the guardsman turned to Marshall, stomped his foot as if to say goodbye, and then followed the rest of his men into the castle. I can only image how excited Marshall was for the rest of the day after that encounter!
