“I love horses,” a little girl tells us as she carefully colors in a drawing of her favorite animal. The moment we’re invited into the room with her, it’s apparent that something is very wrong.
Kiera is a cancer patient at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and although her spirits seem high, she has one very simple wish — To see her beloved horses in their natural habitat.
That’s precisely what Expedia intends to do for her and many other kids in the same situation. "A lot of [these] children […] are there for months — or maybe even years — and they're not able to go out and see different parts of the world." With the help of a camera and a little traveling, Kiera was able to see wild horses roaming the windy fields of Argentina live.
As she reaches out to touch the beautiful image, a voice on the other end gently prompts her: “Which one’s your favorite?” I’m getting emotional just thinking about it!
Many people are doing wonderful things to help patients just like Kiera, too. Kylie is an 11-year-old who invented the “Chemo Backpack,” and Katelyn is a 10-year-old who shaved her head to raise awareness.
