Mom And Dad Shaken After Stray Bullet Strikes Baby’s Crib

It was an unthinkable scenario that they never saw coming. In the middle of the night, Sarina and Brian Manifold were shocked at what they heard in their house. The Knox County, Tennessee, couple woke up to gunshots in their daughter Brynn's nursery. The stray bullet shot through the wall of their home and through the crib, missing Brynn by only a few inches. The 5-month-old's bed is covered in pieces of chipped wood.

"Fear, terror, grateful that she's OK… As soon as I hung up the phone with 911, I think that's when it hit me, and I just started hugging her and sobbing," Sarina told WVLT's Heather Burian. Local police discovered nine shell casings near the home. While officers may never find who shot the bullets, the Manifolds are sharing their story to urge gun owners to be responsible when firing.

"People who choose to have weapons and want to go out and shoot them, that they [need to] know that bullets do land somewhere. And they landed in our house. And that scares me," Sarina says. The couple believes that it must have been their grandparents watching over Brynn that night — both Sarina and Brian had recently lost a parent. The shaken parents are moving Brynn's new crib into their bedroom for the next six weeks.
