Meet Michelle Morris. Michelle is a 47-year-old single-mom of three children battling breast cancer. One of her three children, Will, has autism.
This mom had to stop working over a year ago due to her illness, and now has bills piling up, causing her to worry about losing her home.
Two students from Billerica Memorial High School heard about the family’s struggle and wanted to do something special to help out. They came up with a pretty unique idea, one that would involve most of their high school: the students were going to "cell out."
This concept of "celling out" requires you to turn off your cell phone and set your device aside for a set amount of time. A concept that will require students to devote less time to their social devices and more time to helping a community member in need.
For 30 days, more than 100 students from Billerica High School are to turn off their cell phones. A sacrifice that they hope will make somewhat of a difference in Michelle’s life. In this month, students will go door to door in raising money for the Morris family as well as the Dana Farber Institute for Cancer.
Upon hearing this news of their sweet notion, Michele said that she was crying for a couple of days.
It’s beautiful to see high-school teenagers come together to help make a difference in a complete stranger’s life.
