‘Flip Or Flop’ Cancellation Was Influenced By Tarek El Moussa’s Messy Relationship Drama

If you've been a longtime fan of Flip or Flop, you know two things. One, Tarek and Christina work hard and do some incredible transformations. Two, their relationship has always been M-E-S-S-Y.

Tarek and Christina were introduced to the world as a married couple in 2013 on the house-flipping series. They'd already been married four years at that point, but their relationship was under a lot of stress. By 2016, an explosive incident between the couple seemed to be the writing on the wall. In early 2017, Tarek filed for divorce.

Despite their split, they continued to work together on Flip or Flop, even when both ventured into other relationships. Rumors indicate that Tarek's recent marriage to Heather Rae Young may be the reason why Flip or Flop was canceled, a decision that baffled fans after it had just been renewed.

Tarek El Moussa's last decade of life has been documented on Flip or Flop. He went from being the husband of co-host Christina to divorce and being a co-parent to their two children, Taylor and Brayden. He battled testicular cancer, embarked on single life, and found love again with Heather Rae Young.

Today, Tarek and Heather are married and on their own fertility journey. He has continued his professional relationship with Christina, as well as their co-parenting one. But now the former is coming to an end, though his solo show, Flipping 101, will continue.

Christina is now a mom of three, and after her subsequent marriage to Ant Anstead ended, she has found love with Joshua Hall. She has a solo show as well, Christina on the Coast, which will continue despite the cancellation of Flip or Flop.

Sources are suggesting that recent tension between Christina and Tarek, which in part involves Tarek's wife Heather Rae Young, may be behind the decision to end the show. This confused fans, who'd recently learned of the show's renewal, but did not surprise sources close to the couple, who say Tarek's recent marriage has "complicated things."

"It's not ideal to have two exes who share children working together so closely while their significant others are just standing by," a source told the New York Post.

A different source shared a similar story with People.

"Tarek and Christina are generally cordial. They're co-parenting and nothing gets in the way of that," the source says.

"The show was just too intimate of a setting at this point and it was time to close that chapter."

Interestingly, another source told Us Weekly it was more about their busy professional and personal schedules.

"They mutually agreed they didn't want to go forth with another season," they shared, noting their contracts would have been up after season 10.

"They're both very busy working on their own projects and have a lot going on in their personal lives."

What's piqued the interest of fans of the show is the fact that the two have weathered the storm to keep it going through some pretty big changes. The show saw Tarek's cancer diagnosis (which came thanks to a viewer), their struggles to conceive a second child, a miscarriage, the birth of their son, their divorce, Christina's remarriage and third child, and Tarek's relationship with Heather. Now that Heather is more of a power player as a wife, many are suggesting she put the kibosh on the show's future.

The decision also comes one year after an alleged on-set incident that saw Tarek berate Christina and compare her to Heather before dismissing her as a "washed-up loser." Us Weekly's sources believe this end is for the best.

"Filming Flip or Flop took up a lot of time [and they] weren't the happiest on set together," the source said.

"Once the cameras went away you noticed a different vibe. They just went their separate ways, did their own thing, and would speak to the cast and crew more than they would each other," the source continued.

"It's a relief for the both of them that they don't have to work together on set again. Now they can focus more on their spinoffs while still giving the fans what they want."

Both Tarek and Christina shared separate posts marking the end of the series.

"New Flip or Flop episode airs tonight! And with just two episodes left, the end of this season is a bit more bittersweet… after an incredible 10 year run, Flip or Flop is coming to an end. This show would not have been possible without all of you following along, so THANK YOU," Tarek wrote.

"You guys have been with us through it all—you watched me beat cancer, you've watched the babies grow up into the most amazing little humans, and everything in between but I'm not going anywhere and I can promise that you are going to love what comes next!"

"Bittersweet news to announce, it's the end of an era. Next week's episode of Flip or Flop will be the SERIES finale. I'm filled with gratitude to have done 10 seasons of a hit show. I remember filming the pilot and thinking, 'wouldn't this be crazy if is this actually made it to network tv?' And here we are, a decade later," Christina wrote in her post.

"From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you who have watched the show throughout the years. I am beyond grateful for the support. I also want to thank the amazing crew who worked so hard to make this show possible. It's been a wild ride to say the least!! I'm excited to see what the next 10 years has in store and can't wait to share what I've been working on behind the scenes. Stay tuned ❤️! ✨."
