School Won’t Pay To Remodel, So One Teacher Starts Planting Flowers Everywhere

Special needs teacher, Wayne Sergeant has been in education for 40 years. If you've ever been to any public school, you know that sometimes the buildings can look a bit drab. School can't necessarily afford to look extravagant.

Still, it's always nice when a school can capture the colorfulness of its students.

There are some teachers who treat teaching like a job, they clock in and clock out. Then there are other teachers, like Kyle Schwartz, who took the time to ask her students the one thing they wished she knew about them, and teachers like Sergeant who are willing to get their hands dirty.

Sergeant decided to upgrade his elementary school completely out of pocket. The teacher has planted flowers all over the school grounds. Not only that, but he is teaching the art of gardening — a useful skill they can keep with them for a lifetime.

"Not only is it actually helping to beautify the school grounds some, but it's also providing educational opportunities for some of the staff, and the kids seem to like it a lot more," Sergeant says.

But the teacher doesn't stop there. He also teaches painting after school hours to interested students. Sometimes a small thing can make a big difference. When the school you go to looks good, it makes you proud to go there.

What do you think of Sergeant's idea? Were there any teachers in your life that transformed you? Let us know in the comments!
