Teen Collects 100 Pairs Of Shoes, Then Gives Them Away For Free To Kids In Need

With the school year starting back up across the country, many students are feeling the pressure to keep up with the latest trends their classmates are rocking in the hallways.

I remember stressing out when my family couldn't afford to buy me what my more "popular" co-eds were wearing and feeling embarrassed by my cheaper, knock-off substitutes. Now that I'm older, I understand just how silly it is to always feel the need to conform to the opinions of those around me, something I wish I could have learned much sooner.

Thats why I'm so inspired by the young man below who has gone out of his way to make sure the less fortunate kids in his hometown in upstate New York are able to walk into their classrooms with confidence.

Thirteen year old Zaire Downs organized a Sneaker Drive in his community and the response from his fellow citizens has been nothing short of amazing.

Kids wearing certain shoes, particularly specific brands of sneakers, are often the subject of cruel bullying. Feeling sympathy for those who can't purchase a new pair each year, Zaire decided to collect as many styles and sizes as he possibly could.

After receiving 100 pairs of new or slightly used footwear, he recently handed them out to grateful children in his community.

For weeks before the event, Zaire set up boxes like this across Rochester, NY, where residents could help boost his supply.

His mom, Tamara Leigh, has been by his side the whole time, encouraging her incredible kiddo with pride and unwavering support.

More than 400 people showed up hoping for a pair, something the young man hopes to provide in the future thanks to the kind financial donations to his GoFundMe account.

This isn't the first time Zaire took the initiative to make a positive change in his community — and I think it's safe to say it won't be the last. His mom cheers him on with Facebook posts touting her incredible son as the future president of the United States. I have to say, I would not be surprised!
