This story begins with a mother's lie: When Drill Sergeant Terry Achane was deployed away from his wife, Tira Bland, she gave their baby up for adoption without telling him.
While Terry was stationed in South Carolina, Tira gave birth in Utah. Terry knew she was pregnant and even escorted her to prenatal appointments, however, after he deployed to South Carolina, Kira bizarrely stopped contacting him. When Terry returned home, he first believed his wife had aborted their child. Then, weeks later, he learned his daughter Teleah, had been given up for adoption in Utah.
Sometimes a mom's choice to make an adoption plan is in the best interest of the child, in this case, without the consent of the father, it was completely illegal. However, the agency, the Adoption Center of Choice, did not bother looking into Terry's information.
When Terry was away, Kira arranged for her child to be adopted by Jared and Kristi Frei — a couple who was having trouble conceiving. Kira told the couple that Terry had abandoned their child.
After discovering the illegal adoption, Terry wanted his daughter back. Jared and Kristi, believed that Terry abandoned Teleah, wanted to keep her.
After a 22-month custody battle, Terry was reunited with Teleah. He is making plans with the Freis so that they can continue to be a part of his life.
