Property theft is a terrible crime. While it's upsetting to know that there are people willing to take your possessions as theirs, it's often not about the money. Many property losses are devastating due to the emotions and memories attached. Peter Philbrook knows this feeling quite well.
A toy tractor was stolen from him, but it wasn't about the cost. Instead, it was about what the tractor represented. "It's not worth much in dollars, but the time spent with my son making this work is priceless," he wrote on social media. "This was a project that me and my son spent months trying to get to work."
Not only was the tractor itself sentimental, but Peter's son had decorated it with very important decor. "This little gator meant the world to him," his post continued. "He even put stickers on it from my best friend who passed away in December, and his favorite sticker from his grandma that was a peace sign."
While the tractor wasn't recovered, Tempe police officers were touched by this story — and feeling bad that it wasn't located. So they did something better. They teamed up with Walmart to buy him a brand-new tractor, which was a kind gesture. It can never replace the old one, but at least it honors the memory of it.
