Vancouver Man Killed By His Own Car In Freak Accident In McDonald’s Drive-Thru

A Vancouver father of two has died in a terrible early morning accident in a McDonald's drive-thru.

The incident happened at 5:30 a.m. on September 8. The driver, Tony Eyles, was paying for items when he dropped his credit card from his car. He opened the car door and leaned down to try to pick up the card.

Sadly, the vehicle continued to move as he leaned out of the car, pinning the man between his car and the building and crushing him to death.

"Efforts were made by first responders to revive the man, but tragically, he died on scene," says Vancouver Police Department Constable Tania Visintin.

"This is an absolutely heartbreaking scenario. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of this man."

The constable also shared her concerns for the McDonald's employees who witnessed the heart-wrenching accident.

"People aren't used to seeing this type of incident happen, especially at your workplace. I would assume everyone is shaken up," she told Edmonton City News.

Tony Eyles was 42 years old. His brother-in-law, Neal Pender, remembers him as a guy with a heart of gold.

"[He was] the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back," he told CTV News.

"He was just the most doting father and the most loving husband … he was just the perfect guy."

Neal says that Tony's two young children are struggling to understand what has happened.

"The kids are understandably not fully grasping it," he shared.

"We've just tried to surround them with as much family as we can."

Two separate GoFundMe pages have been established to help the Eyles family. One has raised close to $50,000 CAD. The other has raised close to $60,000 CAD.
