Her little girl was born perfectly healthy, but when 35-year-old Angela Ihegboro first saw her newborn daughter, she was speechless.
You see, Angela and her husband Ben are black Nigerians who live in London. And they've never been unfaithful to one another. So, you can imagine their surprise when out popped Baby Nmachi — a blond-haired, blue-eyed, white baby. Say what?! Yup.
“She’s a miracle baby," Angela told reporters. "But still, what on Earth happened here?”
This medical mystery not only stunned and puzzled the Ihegboro family, but also the doctors. Genetics experts offered three theories to this "blond bombshell" that made headlines worldwide. Nmachi could be the result of a gene mutation unique to her; or the product of long-dormant white genes, passed on to her by her parents, that might have been carried by their predecessors for generations without surfacing until now; or, she may have some kind of mutated version of albinism.
Whatever the case, Ben and Angela are still very much in love with Nmachi, and they call her a "thing of beauty." And I agree.
