The Cambridge kids have been getting more time in the spotlight recently. They're getting older, and all eyes are on the family as they get closer to the throne.
As the kids get older, you can't help but wonder how much they really grasp of the royal life they lead. Kids their age don't understand a lot about government, duty, and country.
When it comes to Prince George, he's starting to get a better understanding of what his future has in store. Sources say that last year, Prince William and Kate Middleton started talking to George about his future.
Prince George's eighth birthday is coming up this month, and we're starting to see more of the young royal. The Daily Mail reports that author Robert Lacey says the young royal is also learning more about what his future has in store.
"William has not revealed to the world how and when he broke the big news to his son," Lacey says.
"Maybe one day George will tell us the story himself. But sometime around the boy's seventh birthday in the summer of 2020 it is thought that his parents went into more detail about what the little prince's life of future royal 'service and duty' would particularly involve."
According to Lacey, "William's aim as a father, the prince stressed, was to give his son 'a normal family upbringing.'"
Lacey also explains that William always had a sense that he was different, but it wasn't explained to him until he was older. He was hoping to do things differently with his own son.
"William's unhappiness at the haphazard fashion in which the whole business of his royal destiny had buzzed around his head from the start," he noted.
As George's different path becomes more clear, chances are he's noticed a few things. He probably spends a little more one-on-one time with the Queen than his siblings. Then there was the 2019 Christmas baking shoot with all the heirs.
"The prince had been placed on a red-carpeted step in order to bring him up closer to the level of his great-grandmother," Lacey noted of the official portrait.
"What a fascinating and historic image to remind us of the essence of the royal system! The current monarch with three future monarchs."
Of course, George is old enough to go to school and have friends, so chances are he may have heard of being a future king before. There's no denying his family is a lot different from your average family. Now George knows he's not the average kid.
Some critics think that George should be allowed to be a kid and shouldn't have to worry about one day leading. When it comes to the Windsors, however, it's just part of growing up.
