When Sandy Wilwerding heard an ad on the radio calling for foster parents to help kids in need she had no idea how much it would change her life.
Though she already had one child of her own, Sandy and her husband Bud decided to open their doors to foster children. Now, 46 years later, they've taken in 168 children.
Their own family expanded over the years as well to include four children, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, but nothing comes close to the number of foster kids that have called the Wilwerding house home over the past four decades.
Kids of different ages and backgrounds have come and gone, some staying for just a little while, others staying for years.
But Wilwerding still keeps in touch with those children and her home is filled with photos of the babies that she rocked and kept safe when their own parents weren't able to do so.
As she closes the final chapter on her fostering years, her husband explains that it'll be a huge adjustment for his wife especially. It will certainly be a lot quieter in their house.
But even as they receive praise and thanks for their decades of generosity, the couple is just happy to have helped.
They have such beautiful souls!
